Your question is an interesting and challenging one. I don't pretend to provide you with the answers because there isn't a satisfying one.
Your question seems to suggest that unless there is proof of evidence that there is life before and after death, then what we call our present life has little bearing on a life before this one, and a life after this one.
In other words, what and how we live now is all that matters.
And you are right!
And whether it goes to create the next one hardly matters!
It is enough to live being fully human; fully alive to LIFE.
If we can do that, what is before us and after us, become timeless!
