Make brain fitness an essential part of your overall health and wellness program. We can indeed form new brain cells, despite a century of being told it’s impossible.

We have long held the belief that brain growth - that is, the “wiring” of the brain that supports hearing, seeing, feeling, thinking, emotions and the control of movements - occurs only in childhood and reaches its peak at mid adult stage. 

From there on, the mature brain starts to decline with signs of forgetfullness leading to what we most fear - degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer. 

There is no question certain functions of the brain tend to decline with age. 

However, recent research has shown that under the right circumstances the older brain can grow, too. 

There is a new revolution taking place in the way we are giving importance to brain health as we learn more and more about our DNA.

We are beginning to understand more about how the brain works—and what can create problems.

Your brain is constantly revising or re-wiring itself. Your brain cells are called neurons. And your brain can not only create new neurons but also change its structure. 

Scientists call this "brain plasticity" or "neuroplasticity" - the brain's capacity for continuous physical, chemical and functional change.

There are steps and strategies you can employ to reinvigorate your brain. 

You just have to “exercise” the brain in the right way. 

When you exercise the brain, you release natural growth factors called neurotrophins - a class of proteins that supports the survival of neuron cells - which in turn enhance the level of your brain fitness.

You can slow down aging, look younger than your age, improve mental sharpness and memory and prevent age-related cognitive decline, dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other cognitively degenerative diseases,

So what can you do to maintain brain health?

Develop a personal wellness program centered on the following areas:

  • Physical exercise
  • A balanced diet rich in brain nutrients.
  • Stress management
  • Brain exercise
  • Stress management is important since stress has been shown to actually kill neurons and reduce the rate of creation of new ones.

    While the above three areas are well known to many, little is known of the relationship between brain health and brain exercises.

    Brain exercises such as meditation and the use of clinically validated brain fitness audio programs are little known yet have been proven to be extremely beneficial.
